Birthplace of Gilbert du Motier de la Fayette at the Château de Chavaniac, in Auvergne, in southern France. As a young noble but not from Paris, Gilbert was regarded as an outsider, a provincial ‘hick’ which may have led to his basic drive for recognition.

Château de la Grange-Bléneau, outside of Paris, Lafayette’s last home. Took one of the most amazing private tours of the home, built in the 14 th century, added to in the 17 th century. Owned by Adrienne’s mother side of the family.
